Playground finished in Abohar

Because of my work with OM Switzerland in the last three years I visited many of the Dalit schools of OM India. I’m so impressed by this great work that OM is doing for the poorest children of India. Most of them live in very difficult circumstances, the parents are often illiterate and they don’t have a perspective for the future of their children. The only way out of this poverty is a good education and that’s why OM started to build schools in rural areas and slums. There the children receive a good education by teachers who love them and care for them.

One problem in almost every Indian schools is the very monotonous way of teaching. Even in kindergarten or primary school there is no room for games or fun, only memorizing and copying things from the black board for hours. Although this is normal in Indian schools and much better than not going to school, it is very important that the children can play and have fun at least in the break times. They are very lively children and – as all children do – they love to play.

There are still Dalit schools of OM which don’t have a playground. I’m very happy that in July – with the donation of “Fabulous Friends” – the school in Abohar was able to build a playground! That is a great improvement for this school and I’m sure that all the children are very grateful for this gift.
